Direct Mail Manufacturer to Build New Headquarters at Innovation Park in Prince William County

Written by Prince William County | Jul 31, 2020

Planet Direct, a full-service marketing company and production facility headquartered in Manassas, has signed a deal to stay in Prince William County for the foreseeable future.

Planet Direct will move to a new 110,000-square-foot headquarters building on an 8.55-acre site in Innovation Park. The company is under contract to purchase land located at 9665 Discovery Blvd. from the county, which owns the park.

“It's exciting to see how Prince William County is developing," said Planet Direct Partners Ryan Gutman and Owen Lawson. "We are proud to be joining Innovation Park and are looking forward to strengthening our relationships within the community.“

“Planet Direct is a homegrown success story and an industry leader and I’m thrilled to see their continued growth and success,” said Christina Winn, executive director of the Prince William County Department of Economic Development. “By expanding their headquarters and manufacturing facility, Planet Direct is expanding their impact on the local economy and helping Prince William County residents find good jobs.“

Planet Direct, which was founded in Prince William County, already employs 120 people at its existing corporate headquarters. The new building will allow it to expand that workforce by at least another 100 new employees.

“Prince William County is extremely excited to help facilitate Planet Direct’s expansion,” said Ann Wheeler, Chair, Prince William Board of County Supervisors. “This is a testament to the fact that our county has a lot to offer. We are able to attract new businesses, but we also support the growth of existing Prince William County companies and provide an environment for them to thrive.”

“Not only will Planet Direct be able to expand their facility, but they will also create excellent economic-based manufacturing jobs here in the county,” said Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson. “A real win-win. As a homegrown, hometown company, we know how much Planet Direct cares about our community. We congratulate them on new growth and wish future success for many years to come.”

Planet Direct will invest $15 million to build the facility, which is expected to generate an estimated $1.5 million in new property taxes to Prince William County over the next 10 years. The building, expected to open in 2021, will be used for its corporate headquarters, administrative offices, graphic design and print production, advanced manufacturing and warehouse space.

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors approved the sale of the parcel for $2.23 million on Jul. 14, 2020, and provided an incentive of $75,000 for water and sewer fee credits
