Prince William County Department of Economic Development programs and partnerships were recognized at this year’s International Economic Development Council (IEDC) 2021 Excellence Awards, which were announced earlier today at the organization’s annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
IEDC is the largest nonprofit association for professional economic developers in the world, and these awards recognize the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year's most influential leaders. 25 award categories honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
"This amazing recognition from our industry peers is rewarding and motivating," said Christina Winn, executive director at PWCDED. "As our team continues to create opportunities for Prince William County on the global economic stage, these awards reflect their dedication and persistence. I also want to thank our partners and leadership for their confidence and support during this challenging time.”
For the population size between 200,000 and 500,000, PWCDED won the following awards for Economic Excellence:
- GOLD: Building Momentum Channel — Multimedia/Video Promotion
- SILVER: ELEVATE: Building Business and Careers — Economic Equity and Inclusion (in partnership with City of Manassas and City of Manassas Park)
- SILVER: Catch the Innovation — Paid Advertising Campaign
- BRONZE: Capital Investment & Innovation Grant — Resiliency, Recovery and Mitigation
“The winners of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the best of economic development and exemplify the leadership that our profession strives for every day,” said Tom Kucharski, 2021 IEDC Board Chair; President and CEO, Invest Buffalo Niagara. “We’re honored to recognize the more than 100 communities whose marketing submissions, projects, and partnerships have improved regional quality of life.”
IEDC received more than 500 submissions from four countries. Awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world, following a nomination process held earlier this year.
"Congratulations to our Department of Economic Development for creating award-winning programs and artfully elevating our business success stories,” said Ann B. Wheeler, Chair, Prince William Board of County Supervisors. “These awards are another benchmark in increasing the strategic brand awareness at regional and national levels for Prince William County.”
Previous IEDC awards include:
- 2017 – Gold: Prince William Science Accelerator
- 2014 – Bronze: Potomac Communities Brochure
