Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Tourism's (PWCDEDT) small business program launched in 2020 at the height of COVID-19 uncertainty with a simple goal: help local businesses navigate, adapt, and keep moving.

What began as a rapid response has grown into something much more intentional, expanding each year with targeted programming, stronger partnerships, and a clearer connection to what owners actually need.

Founded in 2023 as part of the pivotal Business Barriers Study and Action Plan, the Calibrate Committee brings real-world perspective to PWCDEDT by helping to shape programs, resources, and connections to reflect what it actually takes to run and grow a business here in Prince William County.

What They Do

Committee members serve in an advisory council format and are Prince William County-based small business owners with 30 employees or fewer. Selected to reflect a range of industries, experiences, and perspectives across the county, each member serves a one-year term and plays an active role in strengthening the local business ecosystem.

The Calibrate Committee serves as a direct connection between the county and the small business community, playing three key roles:

  • Champions who elevate and connect local businesses.

  • Liaisons who share resources and opportunities across their networks.

  • Advocates who surface challenges, trends, and ideas that shape future programs.

Through quarterly meetings, community outreach, and ongoing engagement, they help PWCDEDT understand what’s working, what’s needed, and what’s next.

Pull a Chair Up to the Table

The Calibrate Small Business Program continues to expand, including ongoing work on a physical small business center, set to open by 2027, designed to bring resources, expertise, and community under one roof.
