After 12 weeks of learning, collaboration, and hands-on business plan development, the second Start SMART Small Business Series cohort wrapped up with a high-energy pitch competition spotlighting the creativity and determination of local entrepreneurs.
Held every Tuesday from September through December, the Start SMART Small Business Series brought together 51 aspiring and early-stage business owners. The program kicked off in alignment with its partners’ shared mission to empower financial literacy through no-cost education, housing counseling, and personalized coaching. This was made possible through a collaboration between:
- Financial Empowerment at Prince William County
- Prince William Chamber of Commerce
- Prince William County Economic Development and Tourism
- Mason SBDC
- Virginia Career Works
- Virginia Cooperative Extension
While the pitch competition marked the conclusion of the series, it also represented a beginning. Graduates of the Start SMART Small Business Series leave with stronger business foundations, expanded networks, and the confidence to take their next steps.
Following a competitive and inspiring round of presentations, the following entrepreneurs were recognized:
- 1st Place ($5,000): Noel Cherowbrier, ExCaliber Intake Forensic Capture
- 2nd Place ($2,500): Courtney Gaskins, Spin Art Joy
- 3rd Place ($1,000): Tigist Awoke, SmartDeal
Each winner exemplified the innovation, preparation, and perseverance that the Start SMART program aims to cultivate.
Prince William County Economic Development and Tourism is proud to support programs like Start SMART that empower entrepreneurs, strengthen the local economy, and help small businesses move from idea to impact.
